Usage Notes
居然 (jūrán) expresses surprise that something happened against expectations — often with a hint of shock or even mild indignation. It can be positive (居然通过了！ — 'I actually passed!') or negative (居然不告诉我！ — 'You actually didn't tell me!'). Context and tone carry its meaning.
不会吧 is a softer expression of disbelief — like 'Surely not?' or 'No way…' in English. 不可能 is stronger and more definitive: 'Impossible!' Use 不会吧 when you want to leave room for it to be true; use 不可能 when you are genuinely certain it cannot be.
Adding 啊 or 呀 to surprise phrases softens or emphasises them depending on tone. 真的啊！ (zhēn de a!) sounds warmer and more exclamatory than a flat 真的. In spoken Mandarin, these particles are very common in emotional reactions.
